Jane Hutchison is a biotechnology attorney well known for her ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships with her clients. Working with a range of research institutes and corporate clients, Jane provides information relating to drafting, ownership, inventorship and other intellectual property strategies. She develops close working relationships with her clients and they rely heavily on her strategic IP advice.
Jane seeks to provide patent services and advice within the context of her clients' overall business strategies. She has developed strong and long-term relationships with key stakeholders at every stage of the patent process – inventors, BD managers, IP managers, CEOs and investment managers. Jane also has a very strong network of overseas Associates, and matches the needs of her local client base with the best Associate available in other jurisdictions.
At a technical level, Jane’s expertise arises from her PhD in molecular genetics, obtained from the University of Edinburgh, as well as significant post-doctoral research experience. In addition, Jane brings to her role as a patent attorney significant corporate experience, having worked for a number of pharmaceutical companies. This assists greatly in providing advice that is commercially astute and given with an understanding of the commercial imperatives under which corporate clients operate.
Jane has a special interest in plant protection work and is well known as a specialist in plant breeders rights (PBR) work. She has also undertaken opposition/hearing work in Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
