Kelly graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2006. Her research focused on a formal total synthesis of the marine diterpenoid Diisocyanoadociane and was awarded the Dean’s prize for the best PhD thesis 2006 in the Research School of Chemistry, ANU. While at the ANU Kelly also worked on the synthetic manipulations of Gibberellins and the Galbulimima alkaloids.
Since the completion of her PhD Kelly has undertaken significant post-doctoral research, including a period at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, working on the synthesis of polypropionate compounds. She has also conducted post doctoral research at the University of Sydney (synthesis of cyclic peptides) and has worked in the corporate sector as an organic chemist looking at the separation and identification of impurities in Agricultural Products.
Kelly has published extensively in industry journals and is a named inventor on a patent. Her PhD work has been published as a chapter in the series, Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis, and she has presented her work at numerous scientific conferences.
