In Australia, sufficiency is a requirement for patentability and goes to whether a patent specification provides adequate information to the skilled person to perform the claimed invention. Legislative change in 2013 ushered in new patentability standards including a raised test for sufficiency.

Michael is an Associate in our Sydney-based Chemistry team and holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Canterbury. As an attorney, his experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and renewable energy industries has involved providing intellectual property advice and strategy to large multi-national pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, SMEs and universities.

Michael has particular experience in start-up ventures. He worked towards the ASX listing of a diagnostic company and in business development and fund raising for renewable energy projects. Michael was also involved in the development of a first in class anti-cancer agent in London with a biopharmaceutical company and one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations.

Having travelled the innovation journey before, Michael can provide extensive services in commercialisation whether that be drafting or prosecuting patent applications, advising clients on the patentability of inventions or enforcing intellectual property rights.
