Siew-Lee is an Associate of FB Rice and specialises in patent matters related to Information and Communications Technology (ICT), covering areas such as wireless communications systems, artificial intelligence, signal processing, power control, network optimisation, game theory, stochastic modelling and Internet commerce. She has experience in drafting patent specifications and prosecuting patent applications in Australia and major patent jurisdictions such as United States, Europe, China and Japan.
In 2011, Siew-Lee spent three months on a secondment in China. There, she strengthened her understanding of various aspects of the Chinese Patent Laws, including drafting, prosecution, invalidation, licensing and infringement. She also participated at an invalidation hearing before the Chinese Patent Office and a court hearing before the Chinese Intermediate People's Court. Siew-Lee delivered several presentations to Chinese patent attorneys, in Mandarin, on the similarities and differences between Chinese and Australian patent laws.
Prior to joining FB Rice in 2006, Siew-Lee worked as a software engineer with Motorola Australia. There, she gained practical technical experience in software development and was involved in upgrading a radio network technology that offered integrated voice, data and messaging services to professional users.
Siew-Lee has won a number of prizes, including Best PhD Thesis in the area of ICT at the University of Adelaide, a subject prize for the highest mark in Designs Law and Practice and Dean’s List of Certificate of Merit for outstanding academic achievement.
Her PhD thesis focused on providing revenue-maximising radio resource management solutions while considering technical constraints in a CDMA-based network. Her research publications have been included in peer-reviewed journals including the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, which is rated by Thomson ISI as one of the world's top journals in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Siew-Lee is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and Malay.
