Pro bono IP services

Many of our pro bono and philanthropic programs are developed by our people, who have great passion and are keen to make a contribution to our wider society.

Our pro bono IP services play an important role in our portfolio of work with the Northcott Institute, the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines, Cystic Fibrosis Australia, and the Sydney Children's Hospital Network (being some of our longstanding pro bono clients).

If you would like to be considered as a pro bono client or as one of our charitable campaigns please contact us.

Community Support

FB Rice actively engages with and supports many humanitarian and charitable causes through monthly charity fundraisers.

These include Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Footy Colours Day and Jeans for Genes Day. Some of the causes we support are: The Royal Institute of Deaf and Blind Children; Mission Australia; RPA Newborn Care; Sea Shepherd Australia; Australian Wildlife Conservancy; and Wilderness Society. We also regularly have our teams volunteering their time for events, including Oxfam Trailwalker, and we support employees in these efforts through paid volunteer time.

Partner, Joanne Martin discusses how community based values can co-exist in a workplace.

Measure

FB Rice has for some years measured its environmental footprint. Measurement includes working with our partner, Pangolin Associates, to determine the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts from our business operations, including cooling and heating our offices, business travel and electricity used for our computers. Our reporting is National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGERs) compliant reporting.

FB Rice holds reporting level membership of the Australian Legal Sector Alliance (AusLSA), an industry-led association working collaboratively to promote sustainable practices across the legal sector.

Compensate

In order to offset the impact of our electricity consumption and travel undertaken for business operations, we purchase verified carbon standard (VCS) carbon credits to ensure that overall no net carbon is added to the environment. Our most recent certification can be viewed here, with a case study of our environmental program by Pangolin Associates here.

Environment

FB Rice appreciates the impact our activities have on the local and worldwide community and environment. We seek to minimise this by following the measure, reduce and avoid, compensate model.
