
Garth Berriman is a patent attorney in the Sydney Information Technology Team. He holds Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Science majoring in Photonics, first class honours in Physics, and a PhD in Physics from the University of Newcastle. With a keen interest in intellectual property and commercialisation of new technologies, coupled with his experience in patent applications, Garth provides exceptional results for clients.
Garth's experience in technology gives him a broad understanding of physical principles underpinning technologies relating to electronic and electrical devices, lasers, telecommunications, nanotechnology, cryptography, energy production devices, medical devices, optics, image processing and machine vision, virtual and augmented reality and general computer based inventions.
Prior to working in intellectual property, Garth worked as a scientist where he conducted high level research in diverse fields including organic semiconductor physics, lithography techniques, optics systems, optical metrology and design and control of precision actuators. This research provides him with the technical expertise to quickly understand a broad range of inventions. He frequently draws on this expertise when drafting patent specifications, prosecuting patent applications and oppositions in Australia and overseas. He is keen to apply this knowledge and experience to his work with new and existing clients in this sector.
