Mary is a Senior Associate and Practice Manager - Perth, and specialises in the oil and gas space. Her patent practice is diverse, covering drafting and prosecution, undertaking patent prior art and infringement clearance searches, and giving advice on freedom to operate. She has extensive experience in patent and trade mark oppositions.
Mary has extensive experience in drafting, prosecution and opposition proceedings and she regularly provides strategic IP advice to management and board members, IP portfolio management, due diligence, freedom to operate opinions. She is also a panel member of the City of Joondalup Innovation Fund Advisory Panel.
Mary enjoys discussing the benefits of having an IP strategy in place with her clients, often spending time with management and board members, to ensure that they are aware of their best options for utilising their IP portfolios for their commercial benefit. Increasingly, she is called on to provide complex strategic advice to position clients to their commercial advantage in joint ventures and trans-national licensing programs.
With a PhD in Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, her patent practice focuses on a diverse range of chemistry and chemical engineering-related industries, including mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, upstream and downstream oil & gas processing, coal processing technologies, nanotechnology, water treatment, waste management technologies and general engineering.
In previous roles, Mary has also practiced in the Trade Marks field, enabling her to provide broad advice to clients on all their intellectual property needs across the board, ensuring that businesses are aware of their options for getting the most out of their intellectual property.
Mary has worked with a broad range of clients, including SMEs, universities, research organisations and several ASX-listed companies. This wide variety of clientele, as well as a period of secondment working in-house in a dual-listed global mining company and spending time with IP portfolio managers for multiple business groups, has given her an extensive understanding of the potential options available to clients when utilising their portfolios to build and secure their business plans.
