Melissa Erce – Patent Attorney

Melissa Erce is a patent attorney in our Sydney Biotechnology Team. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours I) from the University of New South Wales. She recently completed her Masters of Intellectual Property at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Melissa has prosecuted over 150 Australian and New Zealand patent applications primarily in the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology and pharmaceuticals.
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences, UNSW, Melissa worked on understanding how post-translational modification of proteins modulate their capacity to interact. Her PhD thesis focussed on the investigation of the protein-protein interactions between proteins comprising the RNA degradosome complex in a marine microorganism, using a variety of molecular biology and proteomics techniques.
Melissa’s extensive research experience has led to several publications in renowned journals and conference oral presentations.
