Sean Kelley – Patent Attorney

Sean Kelley is a patent attorney in the Perth engineering team of FB Rice. He has a broad engineering and intellectual property background with experience in the medical device, mining and oil and gas industries. Sean prepares patent specifications, prosecutes pending patent applications, provides Freedom to Operate advice and searches patent databases for prior art.

Full Bio

Sean's experience in the medical device, mining and oil and gas industries has provided him with practical insight into how intellectual property can be leveraged to protect business interests and gain a competitive advantage. He has experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Europe, China and Japan. He also has experience working with product development teams to minimize IP risk associated with their projects, undertaking Freedom to Operate analyses and prior art searches.

Prior to joining FB Rice, he spent almost four years in the in-house IP team of one of New Zealand's largest publicly listed companies focusing on inventions in the medical device space. Sean worked directly with product development teams and gained experience building robust IP portfolios and accompanying strategies for the company.

After graduating from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and a Bachelor of Science (Physics, Applied Mathematics), Sean worked in an engineering role in the Perth oil and gas industry at a multinational engineering services company. Sean also has experience in the mining industry, having worked in the Perth office of a multinational engineering and construction company while completing his undergraduate degrees.

Sean is a registered trans-Tasman patent attorney (Australia and New Zealand).
