The 30th Southern Highlands Conference on Heterocyclic Chemistry concludes today with Professor Mary Garson AM as President. Michael Moore attended this annual conference which sees the Australian chemistry community and international visitors converge on Moss Vale for two and a half days of posters and oral presentations on the exotic structures, function and bioactivity possessed by heterocyclic compounds.

Delegates from UNSW Sydney, University of Wollongong, ANU and The University of Western Australia are in attendance plus a contingent from La Trobe University headed by Professor John Moses.

Presentations on Chagas medicinal chemistry and computational insights for synthesis on Sunday has led to the Monday morning sessions where international delegates Professor Dr Albrecht Berkessel from Cologne and Dr Bill Hawkins from Otago provided their expertise on titanium and carbene catalysis and marine natural products. This has added to the unique flavour of the conference where chemistry problems are openly discussed in a congenial and collaborative manner.
