The R&D Tax Incentive program (RDTI) is the Australian Government’s largest targeted entitlement program, aimed at assisting Australian companies in offsetting some of the costs of their R&D activities.

The program specifically supports small to medium Australian companies by providing a tax offset of 43.5%, refundable to companies in tax losses. This potential refund delivers much needed cash flow to fund ongoing and additional R&D activities. Larger companies can also receive a non-refundable tax offset at a rate of 38.5%-46.5% for their eligible R&D activities.

Working with you

The RDTI program is a broad, industry based scheme operating across all industries including biotechnology, manufacturing, information technology, mining and engineering. At FB Rice we have the best technical experts in both our R&D and IP teams. Our technical capabilities enable us to translate your technical information into the R&D application, reducing the time burden on your team.

There is a complementary relationship between your R&D and IP activities and at FB Rice we strategically assess your R&D tax plans, and your IP and commercialisation strategies, throughout your R&D process. Our integrated services help companies across the full R&D and IP cycle including assistance with R&D planning, RDTI claims, funding avenues, IP protection and ultimately commercial positioning.

Our process in assessing and preparing a potential RDTI claim, includes:

  • identification and assessment of eligible R&D activities and related costs
  • ensure best practice compliance and documentation
  • calculation of R&D expenditure
  • preparation, review and lodgement of RDTI
  • provision of tax schedule for accessing the offset
  • analysis and process improvements.

Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) and other government incentives

In addition to R&D tax services, we help businesses claim reimbursement from the Export Market Development Grant (EMDG). This grant is a key Australian Government program assisting Australian businesses in developing their export markets taking their product or IP to a global stage.

We also work with companies to identify and access other government incentive programs, and can provide introductions to a range of contacts through our established networks.
