Eddie is an Associate of FB Rice with over 10 years’ experience in private practice. He has a strong international grounding in IP following qualification as an Australian and New Zealand patent attorney at FB Rice, and also as a UK and European patent attorney while working for a major firm in London.
With a background in physics, Eddie handles a wide variety of technologies including medical, mechanical, electrical, semiconductor and optical engineering. While a large portion of his work is within FB Rice’s medical technology team, he also works across a number of different industry sectors.
Eddie focuses on providing pragmatic, well thought out advice, breaking down difficult concepts in a clear and concise manner. This has provided him with an expanding local client base along with a considerable number of overseas clients, including individuals, SMEs, universities and multinationals. Eddie has built a considerable rapport with clients, who feel comfortable emailing or calling Eddie about any IP matters.
Eddie provides a broad-reaching IP service, with considerable experience in drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the US, providing infringement and validity advice, and general portfolio management.
Prior to joining the profession, Eddie worked for one of the world’s largest telecommunications providers, in its optical design and verification team, where he was named as an inventor on US patent application US 2004208515. Eddie also undertook work experience at a photonics start-up company and a high performance laser manufacturing company. At university, he completed a Masters project based on a study of dislocation distributions in CaTe semiconductor crystals.
