Rachel is a Partner of FB Rice and heads both the Medical Technology and China teams. As a qualified patent attorney, Rachel has over 18 years’ experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications both in Australia and internationally. She conducts infringement and validity opinions and excels at providing high level strategic advice to a range of start-up companies.
Rachel is passionate about innovation in the medical technology space and has particular expertise in the fields of orthopaedics, diagnostic devices and systems, medical and surgical instruments; cardiovascular implantables, wound care and cochlear implants.
Well known for her ability to build long term client-first relationships, she believes in a pragmatic approach and open communication with clients, achieving success through true collaboration. Rachel works hard to tailor intellectual property strategies and advice and to marry them with the commercial aspirations of her clients. These principles apply regardless of whether she is working with local or overseas corporates, institutes, or individuals.
While maintaining a firm grasp on the detail Rachel has a particular skill in seeing the “big picture”, giving her clients confidence that her IP strategies will align with their goals.
Rachel also has a keen interest in China. She understands the constantly evolving IP landscape in China through her regular travels and works hard to develop and maintain her extensive network of Chinese associates and contacts. Rachel is regularly invited to speak at local and overseas events on IP in the Asia Pacific market and works with a number of US corporate clients as an initial point of contact for their interests in the Asia Pacific region.
