The National Business Names Registration (NBNR) Service has been launched on 28 May 2012. The NBNR service will incorporate the business name records from all states and territories into one single national register.

The NBNR service will incorporate the business name records from all states and territories into one single national register.
Benefits include a new simple online business name availability search, significantly cheaper registration costs, and in most cases, confirmation of registration straight away.
The initiative is part of a broader deregulation program under the Council of Australian Government’s Seamless National Economy Agenda, aimed at cutting business red tape.

However, keep in mind that business and company names are not the same thing as trade marks. The names or brands you use to identify your business should be cleared for use and registered as trade marks.
