Michael was a highly regarded and respected professional. Working in our Sydney chemistry team, Michael was recognised for his intelligence, knowledge as a chemist and his immense skills as a patent attorney. He is fondly remembered for his wonderful convivial nature, so often making colleagues laugh with his great sense of humour and candid anecdotes. He also would surprise his colleagues with an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music history and cherished his family who are in all of our thoughts at this difficult time.

A trusted colleague and professional, Michael's unassuming manner endeared him to everyone at FB Rice. He will be sorely missed across the firm, and also within the IP and life sciences community.

Michael was particularly experienced in start-up ventures. He worked towards the ASX listing of a diagnostic company and in business development and fund raising for renewable energy projects. Michael was also involved in the development of a first in class anti-cancer agent in London with a biopharmaceutical company and one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations.

Having travelled the innovation journey before becoming a patent attorney, Michael provided extensive services in commercialisation whether that be drafting or prosecuting patent applications, advising clients on the patentability of inventions or enforcing intellectual property rights.

Michael was also recognised for his patents and award-winning publications.
