FB Rice has launched a new IP Advisory offering with experienced IP Advisory expert Dr Helen Mutimer at the helm, following her departure from her role as Head of IP with CSL Seqirus.

Managing Partner Brett Lunn and incoming Managing Partner Madeleine Kelly said they are thrilled to introduce this new offering, providing both existing and new clients with holistic client support.

“The IP Advisory offering complements our world class IP, searching and R&D tax consulting services, allowing us to work strategically with clients on how they can use IP to drive company outcomes”, Ms Kelly said.

The team will assist clients to understand and leverage the value in their IP assets and minimise risks they could face in the IP space, developing clients’ knowledge of key IP management principles and how to proactively address IP issues.

Ms Kelly said they are preparing to hit the ground running as they launch IP Advisory to market and expect strong client interest across a diverse range of industries.

“The service will provide practical guidance and commercial advice on all aspects of intellectual property, ensuring that clients' IP strategies align with and support their business goals.”

Having worked in private practice and in-house counsel across Australia and the US, Dr Mutimer has significant experience in developing strategies to obtain and use IP, securing freedom to operate through contentious action and negotiation and due diligence both on the ‘sell-side’ and the ’buy-side.’

Speaking on her appointment, Dr Mutimer said she is keen to support local innovation and is passionate about collaborating with organisations, large and small, to understand their IP value.

“I am delighted to be joining a firm that I have long held in high regard and a brilliant team, who are open-minded and can see the value of providing this IP service to their clients.”

“I am also looking forward to mentoring the next generation of talented attorneys, giving back to an industry that I have been so passionate about for decades.”
