Desma has undertaken study and/or worked at four Australian universities and completed postdoctoral training with CSIRO as a member of the Preventative Health Flagship and Animal, Food and Health Sciences Division.
Desma completed a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at The University of Queensland, researching novel therapeutic targets for breast cancer, specifically the role of the secretory pathway calcium ATPases in breast cancer. This work resulted in five publications in high quality research journals, including Cell in October 2010. In addition, she received the School of Pharmacy William Harris Prize in Therapeutic Targeting and the Graduate School Dean’s award for Research Higher Degree Excellence for her work.
In January 2011, she commenced an Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) postdoctoral fellowship with CSIRO, undertaking a joint project between CSIRO and University of Newcastle, investigating the link between obesity and Colorectal Cancer.
At FB Rice, Desma drafts provisional and PCT applications, undertakes local and overseas prosecution and provides local and overseas freedom to operate advice.
Desma is a registered Australian Patent Attorney.
