
Shauna French is a trainee patent attorney in the Melbourne Biotechnology team at FB Rice. Shauna has broad experience across multiple scientific disciplines and expertise in the development of novel biotherapies. Her passion for translating research into commercial applications has led to a number of first author publications and competitive funding awards. Shauna is passionate about new technologies and is eager to bring her knowledge and experience to help new and existing clients achieve their goals.
Shauna holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Medical Science from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. She completed a basic science PhD at Monash University, Melbourne, where she specialised in clinical haematology.
Prior to joining FB Rice, Shauna was undertaking post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School, Boston. Shauna has broad expertise in many scientific disciplines, including: biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, microfluidics, nanotechnology, immunology and pharmacology.
Throughout her career, Shauna has worked exclusively on projects centered around the development and optimisation of novel biotherapeutics. Most notably, her PhD work in developing therapeutic antibodies led to a lucrative partnership with a US multinational biopharmaceutical company. Here, she gained first-hand experience with patent drafting and commercialisation strategy. Shauna has worked extensively with local and international industry partners, which range from Australian and international biopharmaceutical companies to US biotechnology start-ups.
Shauna has completed a short course in Healthcare Innovation at Harvard Medical school and is currently undertaking her Master’s in Commercial Law (majoring in Intellectual Property Law) at the University of Melbourne.
