Below is a snapshot including some of our most recent recognition.

In the 2020 edition of World Trademark Review 1000: The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals, FB Rice was once again acknowledged as a leading firm. Additionally, Joanne Martin, Michael Seifreid and Lisa Neilson were individually acknowledged for their trade mark expertise. WTR stated "In business for 70 years, the independent FB Rice has incredible depth and, most importantly, adds tremendous value. Effective communications ensure clients are ever up to date with the status of their files and creativity in problem solving means that few, if any, requests are impossible. The team is also a great corporate citizen that exemplifies a caring culture towards clients and employees.”



FB Rice was named the Australian “Patent Attorney Firm of the Year” at the inaugural 2020 Global IP Awards. Developed by the IP Media Group, which publishes IAM and World Trademark Review (WTR), these awards recognise the top IP firms from around the world. It is an honour to be the recipient of such an award in its first year.


Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) acknowledged FB Rice as a Tier One firm for both patent prosecution and trade mark prosecution in 2019.

FB Rice has been awarded the "IP Specialist Firm" award for the second year in a row. 2019 marks the third year in a row that FB Rice has won a firm award at the Client Choice Awards. Steve Gledhill was recognised as the Most Client-Focussed IP Specialist. Independently researched by Beaton, the Client Choice Awards are the only client-voted professional services awards in the world.


In 2019, FB Rice ranked as “Highly Recommended” for Patent Prosecution in the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals guide. Furthermore, Managing Partner, Brett Lunn, Jeremy Dobbin, Rachel Hooke, John Landells, Connie Merlino, Jenny Petering and Ian Rourke made the 2019 IAM Prosecution recommended list. Client feedback showed that, “FB Rice attorneys are knowledgeable, accessible and go out of their way to understand clients’ businesses and attitudes towards intellectual property. The firm provides a superior level of service at attractive price points and, very importantly, its independence is conducive to meeting long-term visions and goals for clients.”



MIP acknowledged FB Rice as a Tier One firm for both patent prosecution and trade mark prosecution and “Australian Prosecution Firm of the Year” in 2018.

Client Choice Awards are the most prestigious award for professional services organisations in Australia and New Zealand. Beaton, the leading researcher in ‘voice of the client’ services and consultant to professional services, provides the independent research behind the Awards.

IAM Patent 1000 identifies rankings for IP patent firms and top patent professionals in key jurisdictions around the globe. FB Rice ranked as “Highly Recommendedfor Patent Prosecution in 2018.

Managing Partner, Brett Lunn, Jenny Petering, Ian Rourke and John Landells made the 2018 IAM Patent recommended list. IAM Patent 1000 stated: “A culture of excellence and reliability” is apparent in every instruction handled by FB Rice, “a top-notch patent attorney firm that tackles the most challenging domestic and international briefs for an enormous client base. The Asia IP Awards recognise the top trademark, patent and copyright practices as determined by in-house counsel from Asia, Europe and the Americas. More than 5,000 in-house counsel were polled by Asia IP magazine throughout the first part of 2018.  FB Rice was awarded Australian “Trademark Firm of the Year 2018”

There is a significant amount of high-level intellectual property work being done in Asia,” said Asia IP publisher Darren Barton. “Each year, the competition to win an Asia IP Award becomes more and more competitive.”



The Client Choice Awards are independently researched by beaton and awarded to professional service organisations in Australia. FB Rice has been awarded the “Niche Firm Leader” award, as an IP Specialist, at the 2017 award ceremony. Additionally, Ian Rourke was presented with the “IP Specialist Practitioner” award.
