John is a Senior Associate of FB Rice and has practised in the fields of mechanical and general engineering patents for over 10 years. John's practice covers the protection of IP rights for his clients, as well as advice and design guidance on the avoidance of infringement of competitor IP rights.
John's time in-house and in private practice has provided him with hands-on experience working with engineers in Australia and China to develop design modifications for the avoidance of competitor IP. John has also worked closely with foreign attorneys in a number of major jurisdictions, including the US and Europe, on gaining clearance of IP infringement prior to launch of new products.
John's clients describe him as having a "thorough knowledge of the patent system", and say that his advice is "pragmatic and easy to understand", "timely and accurate", and "anchored by a clear understanding of their technology".
Prior to entering the patent profession, John gained industry experience in road pavement design and construction, pavement management systems and the operation and maintenance of related equipment and machinery. He has also been an Officer in the Royal Australian Artillery with experience in the operation and maintenance of sophisticated electromechanical military ordinance and equipment. John holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of NSW, majoring in Geotechnical and Construction Engineering.
John is a registered Australian Patent Attorney.
